Laura Lashley was born on May 12th, 1972, in Winston-Salem, North Carolina in the United States of America. As a child, her family lived in a large house in rural Davidson County.

There was (at the time) a great forest of trees behind her house with a pond, a creek, blackberry bushes, and trails to explore. Laura and her sister would build forts, make "shoes" out of sticks, and hunt for arrowheads. She would make clay pots out of the clay she dug from the creek bed, all the while getting pinched by crawdads. Since then, most of the trees have been destroyed to build more houses for more and more people.

She has loved drawing from her earliest moments. Laura began making Art-o-mat art ( www.artomat.org ) several years ago and her current paintings are inspired by her tiny "Shrinitas" ( Magic Mini Shrines). She loves patterns, manmade and natural. Her mandalas are a way for her to explore pattern and form. She always starts at the center of a piece and works out -- often using measuring devices .... but not always.

She is still as in love with nature as she was as a child. At her home now, she gets to experience nature of all sorts. She lives among baby opposums, cats, dogs, birds, moles, mice, groundhogs, and even a family of beavers.

In the coming year, her paintings will reflect her concern for the world we are currently living in. Her intent is to remind people of the beauty our world has to offer if it is treated well.
