self portrait tuesday!

i have a thrift store addiction, and there is a
huge salvation army up the street from my house.
after a long day of work, i really love to walk down
every aisle and look at all of the patterns and
colors and textures. it's really therapeutic for me.
today i got some really beautiful things, and this.

this kind of sleazy plastic jacket with silver hoops
and a real rabbit foot attached. i had to buy it because
it fit me. and it has a rabbit's foot attached.

9-20-05

wow, i don't know if it is the weather
or if it is the intense yoga class i went to
early this morning, but i am having the
hardest time staying awake.

here is my self portrait tuesday photo of
me in my bedroom. i stayed up til 3am
cleaning it last night. i dont like carpet at all.

also pictured:
a morning glory flower in my yard (i like how
it looks lit up from inside) and a detail of a
painting i did last week for a friend. i delivered
it to her right when i finished painting it friday
night so i didnt get a good outside photo of it.
i loved how it turned out. it was very heavily
inspired by my favorite artist, Kay Nielsen.

9-15-05

here are a few more pictures.
the sexy lady is an air freshener from
the 70's that Ricky gave me yesterday
after his 50th birthday party. i gave him
a tin wind-up robot because he collects tin
toys. we had a great picnic in the park with
his family and a few friends.

oh, and also there is a photo of 2 cicadas
doing something.... i think maybe making
cicada babies. i was walking sunny this afternoon
out back and saw these guys, a giant praying mantis,
and a little hummingbird drinking out of tons of orange
flowers. so pretty.

Go see Junebug!!!!

Hi. I am normally very lazy with my typing and am going
to try to do this one right. Here goes!!!

If you haven't seen it already, you should most definitely go
see the movie Junebug immediately. I was very lucky to be
an extra and I got to see all the "goings - on" of the movie
making process. I was very excited to see so many of my
friends up there on that big screen, but even had I not known
anyone in the film, I would still be highly recommending it.

It made me laugh, it made me cry..... all that and then some.

There is an "outsider/visionary" artist in the movie who paints
lots of large male body parts. I work with a real live visionary/
outsider artist whose specialty is butts. Because butts are shaped
like hearts and hearts equal love. Ricky drew that equation out
for me one of the first times I met him. I have been lucky
enough to work with him now for 2 and a half years. His paintings
are something to behold. He is absolutely amazing. See for
yourself, I will now post some of Ricky Needham's paintings.

wow, i finally finished this mandala! i am very happy about that.
i spent the week putting the finishing touches on it. that is my favorite
part because it really starts to pop out.

i just primed an 18 x 24 piece of wood to paint a similar shaped
mandala on but with completely different colors and much
more detail since it's so much bigger.

right now i am going to figure out what to take to the benefit
tomorrow to raise $ for the hurricane vicitms. the
benefit will be at the
werehouse
211 e 3rd st here in w-s nc, starting at 6 pm with bands, a potluck
and affordable art. (silent art auction ends at 8pm--so place your
bids earlier than that!!!)

my friend mitsuyo made the greatest bags and wallets and jewelry
for the art auction. see her jewelry at www.kanokano.net !

ok, here are photos of the mandala for summer inspired by
summer colors. what is your favorite?
