wildflower preserve

cheese

today i volunteered at the Emily Allen wildflower preserve.
i found out about it when i was looking at the Piedmont
Land Conservancy book "Forever These Lands". its a really
great book and a really great flower preserve. today we
pulled weeds and divided and thinned some plants. i got
to bring some home to plant in my yard but i didnt learn
their names. all of emily's plants and flowers are native
to the area. there was some talk while weeding of the
proposal to sell off so much of the protected national
forests to raise money for schools. someone said it's like
getting a mortgage on your house to buy groceries.

i came home and worked in my yard for the rest of the day.
(instead of painting like i was "supposed" to do.) fred
blew the leaves out of my flower beds and it was exciting
to see how far along many of my plants are already. my head
is killing me so im not going to look at this computer
anymore. hope everyone is having a great weekend!

funnymail

about a year ago i found a cardboard box full of the most beautiful
thread in so many colors. i am finally putting them to good use by
learning to embroider. im enjyoing it a lot. my next projects in string
are going to be a field of buffalo, a werewolf riding a bicycle, and a
bird eating a worm.

earlier today i was reading my friend leyas blog at curiousbirdDOTcom and she
had a photo of some funny mail. i went outside to take photos and heard my
mailbox shut, and lo and behold, i got some funny mail too. so i took a picture.
its the one with the animals.

green windy day

it might be my new sunglasses, but today is the greenest day
i have seen in a long time! i love the color green. it's also
very windy. i just finished reading "The Shipping News" which
had some crazy tales of wind. made me want to visit
Newfoundland.

im attempting to post photos to my blog a new way. hopefully
it will work. i havent posted anything in a long time. mostly
because i havent been happy with any photos i have been taking.
i go through spells like that. it usually means i should put down
the digital camera and go back to the 35mm for a while. maybe i
will.

in other news, i tried embroidery for the 1st time last night and
so far am loving it. im working on painting the dog for the
humane society fundraiser and it's taking a very long time-but
looking pretty darn good. i am hoping to make my first dress
this week - a cute little summer halter dress. and i am now
leaving to go to my dad's to pick up my FIRST cell phone!
