wildflower preserve

today i volunteered at the Emily Allen wildflower preserve.
i found out about it when i was looking at the Piedmont
Land Conservancy book "Forever These Lands". its a really
great book and a really great flower preserve. today we
pulled weeds and divided and thinned some plants. i got
to bring some home to plant in my yard but i didnt learn
their names. all of emily's plants and flowers are native
to the area. there was some talk while weeding of the
proposal to sell off so much of the protected national
forests to raise money for schools. someone said it's like
getting a mortgage on your house to buy groceries.
i came home and worked in my yard for the rest of the day.
(instead of painting like i was "supposed" to do.) fred
blew the leaves out of my flower beds and it was exciting
to see how far along many of my plants are already. my head
is killing me so im not going to look at this computer
anymore. hope everyone is having a great weekend!
